23 101 X The House of Tiles at Lerna is a forerunner in miniature of the Minoan and Mycenaean palaces. It was destroyed by fire around 2200 BC. Among the debris were seals used on storage jars. It was presumably the residence of the chief controlling the local area and storing a part of its produce paid as tribute.

25 102 B A village of about eighty joined stone-built rooms, occupied around 2600-2200 BC, perhaps housing several generations of an extended family, and probably typical of Cretan settlements of the period. One room may have been a shrine: it contained a small altar and an unusual pot in the form of a woman, perhaps a Mother Goddess.

28 102 D Phylakopi, the main settlement on the island of Melos, was a substantial walled town before 2200 BC and continued to be important later when it may have come under direct Minoan political control. One interesting find was a model in serpentine of a granary complex.
